The MRes Electrical Power and Energy Technology program provide advanced and systematic education and training in the areas of electronic science and technology. It has been designed to respond to the vigorous development of electric power and energy technology in China and worldwide.
The program contains taught courses covering solar converters, wind power systems, energy storage technology, and smart grids. It places a strong emphasis on hands-on experience and practical skills development. A 12-month extensive research project is required which leads to submission of a dissertation after students have finished the taught modules.
You will develop the understanding of state-of-the-art electrical power and energy technology; be able to research and critically evaluate trends in current technologies of energy management, sustainability, renewable energy and nuclear energy; skills in planning, project management and communicating complex ideas; and experience in conducting extended research and/or developing project work.
Graduates of this program, as with all XJTLU masters degrees, earn a University of Liverpool degree that is recognized by the Chinese Ministry of Education.

Additional learning activities
The completion of additional learning activities is required to complete your master’s degree. Normally, required ALA hours will be distributed evenly across each semester, amounting to 200 hours per semester.

Academic Background
An undergraduate degree (UK 2:1 or equivalent) in a relevant field such as electrical engineering, electronic science and technology, telecommunication engineering, computer science and technology, mathematics, semiconductor physics, automation and control, embedded systems, engineering thermal physics or other related disciplines.
If English is not your native language or if you have not studied in English at degree level, you will need to provide evidence of your English proficiency. You should normally possess one of the following qualifications:
In exceptional circumstances, individual cases will be considered on their own merits. You may be required to attend interviews or tests to further demonstrate your English proficiency.
If you miss the English language requirements by 0.5-1.0 of an IELTS band, or a similar number for other English language exams, you can be admitted to the program after successful completion of our four- or six-week intensive English presessional course.
You can also apply to take the XJTLU English language test in lieu of an IELTS/TOEFL or equivalent. Based on the score, students may be admitted or may be required to take and successfully complete the four- or six-week intensive English presessional course.
Additionally, students may be required to complete English language courses on a pass/fail basis as part of the additional learning activity requirement during their studies at XJTLU.

The accommodation facilities our students stay in are located within the Suzhou Dushu Lake Science and Education Innovation District and managed privately by the Suzhou Industrial Park Education Development and Investment Limited Company.
All international students are guaranteed accommodation throughout their study at XJTLU. Accommodation options range from studios to five-bedroom apartments (subject to availability with preference given to advanced bookings).
Most students stay in the Wencui Parfait apartments where each student has a private bedroom with en-suite bathroom – the average monthly rental fee is RMB 1,600 per month. Rents range from RMB 1,200 per month to RMB 2,100 per month depending on the length of the contract.
If preferred, postgraduate international students can access cheaper, basic dormitory accommodation which is either single or shared with prices ranging from 300-500 RMB per month

Xi’an Jiaotong-Liverpool University (XJTLU) is an international joint venture university founded by Xi’an Jiaotong University in China and the University of Liverpool in the United Kingdom. As an independent Sino-foreign cooperative university, it captures the essence of both prestigious parent universities and is the first and only one of its kind approved by the Ministry of Education in China.
