About the University Summary

Hailed as the “cradle of teachers” of Fujian Province, Fujian Normal University (FJNU) is a key institution of higher learning in Fujian Province with a century-old history and a glorious tradition. Tracing its origin back to Fujian Superior Normal School, founded in 1907 by the famous late-Qing scholar Chen Baochen, who once served as the teacher of China’s last emperor, FNU is Fujian’s oldest university and one of China’s most time-honored teachers’ colleges. After the founding of the People’s Republic of China, the school, which by then had been renamed Fujian Provincial Normal College, merged in 1953 with such celebrated centers of learning as Fukian Christian University and Hua Nan Women’s College to form a new and significantly expanded Fujian Normal College, which acquired its current name of Fujian Normal University in 1972.

Fujian Normal University (FNU), a century-old university based in Fuzhou, a historic cultural city known as “Land of Culture on the Coast”, is a time-honored and well-acclaimed provincial institution of higher learning. Founded as Fujian Superior Normal School in 1907 by the famous late-Qing scholar Chen Baochen, who once served as the teacher of China’s last emperor, the present day FNU went through a few changes—merging with the former Hwa-Nan Women’s College of Arts and Sciences, Fukien Christian University and Fujian Provincial Teachers School respectively—to form Fujian Teachers College in 1953. In 1972, the University was renamed Fujian Normal University and has been thus referred to since then. In 2012, the Ministry of Education and Fujian government signed an agreement to jointly support the development of the University. In 2014, FNU was designated as a “provincial high-level university for prioritized construction”.FNU currently enrolls over 30,000 students and offers nearly 100 bachelor programs, nearly 200 master programs and over 100 doctoral programs. These programs enable FNU to set up a full-fledged multi-disciplinary educational system. Students may choose from a variety of specialties, including but not limited to literature, history, philosophy, science, engineering, education, economics, law, management, agriculture and art.
Situated in the core area of the 21st century Maritime Silk Road and adjacent to Taiwan, Hongkong and Macao, FNU takes full advantage of this privileged location to develop its international exchanges and cooperation. Currently the University has established friendly and cooperative relations with more than 110 universities and institutions in the USA, UK, Australia, etc. and with UNESCO, and real cooperation with over 40 universities in Taiwan have been launched. Teaching Chinese as a foreign language is another proud achievement FNU has made in recent years. So far 824 volunteers in 15 groups have been sent to 12 countries (the Philippines, Indonesia, Thailand, Vietnam, etc.),

As a base for overseas students’ education and a China-ASEAN Education Training Center, FNU is authorized to admit students on three special scholarships: the Chinese Government Scholarship, the Confucius Institute Scholarship and the Fujian Provincial Government Scholarship. FNU began to enroll foreign students in 1984. Since then, it has enrolled nearly 5,000 students from over 30 countries and regions, such as Japan, Korea, the United States, Britain, France, Indonesia, Thailand, Hongkong, Taiwan and Macao. All PhD, MSc and undergraduate programs in the school are open to foreign students, and FNU is also a registered HSK test center. The use of multi-media in the classroom and full Chinese immersion are distinctive to FNU and effectively promote students’ Chinese communication skills. Currently, almost 1,000 overseas students from more than 30 countries and regions are enrolled. In addition, the University has co-founded two Confucius Institutes with the Angeles University Foundation of the Philippines and Alazhar University of Indonesia, as well as one Confucius Classroom with Boston Renaissance Charter Public School.

The University Combines resources over and above the ordinary to deliver one of the greatest education systems in the world. Get detailed information about their campus, departments, and application time schedules by downloading the brochure. Apply to speak with your personal Program Advisor
