Description

This eight-week course is taught by tutors in our Language Centre and helps students to improve and develop their general and discipline-specific English language and study skills, with a particular emphasis on writing and speaking, in order to allow them to function effectively in their postgraduate master’s programs

Once you are accepted onto the pre-sessional English course, you will not need to retake a language test. This means that you can concentrate on developing your postgraduate study skills.

The course runs for eight weeks and is comprised of 160 hours of teaching and 120 hours of self-study.

If you have applied for an XJTLU Master’s program and meet the minimum English language requirements for the course as shown below, you may be accepted onto the Pre-sessional English summer course subject to Program Director approval. Upon successful enrollment on the Pre-sessional English summer course, you will be able to change your XJTLU Master’s offer letter to ‘Unconditional’ for English level. If you are simply looking to improve your academic English language skills and meet the minimum language requirements for the course as shown below, then you are welcome to elect to take this course.

English level requirements

IELTS 6.0, with no single component less than IELTS 5.5 (equivalent to 80 TOEFL)

IELTS 5.5, with no single component less than IELTS 5.0 (equivalent to 72 TOEFL)

IELTS 5.0, with no single component less than IELTS 5.0 (equivalent to 62 TOEFL)

Details

The accommodation facilities our students stay in are located within the Suzhou Dushu Lake Science and Education Innovation District and managed privately by the Suzhou Industrial Park Education Development and Investment Limited Company.

All international students are guaranteed accommodation throughout their study at XJTLU. Accommodation options range from studios to five-bedroom apartments (subject to availability with preference given to advanced bookings).

Most students stay in the Wencui Parfait apartments where each student has a private bedroom with en-suite bathroom – the average monthly rental fee is RMB 1,600 per month. Rents range from RMB 1,200 per month to RMB 2,100 per month depending on the length of the contract.

If preferred, postgraduate international students can access cheaper, basic dormitory accommodation which is either single or shared with prices ranging from 300-500 RMB per month

About the University Summary

Xi’an Jiaotong-Liverpool University (XJTLU) is an international joint venture university founded by Xi’an Jiaotong University in China and the University of Liverpool in the United Kingdom. As an independent Sino-foreign cooperative university, it captures the essence of both prestigious parent universities and is the first and only one of its kind approved by the Ministry of Education in China.

The University currently offers approximately 90 degree programmes in the fields of science, engineering, business, finance, architecture, urban planning, language, culture and all are taught in English except for general and basic courses. Undergraduate students earn two degrees: an XJTLU degree from the Chinese Ministry of Education and a globally recognised degree from the University of Liverpool.
